Surgical Procedures

Spaying

Spaying Your Pet
Spaying your female dog or cat provides numerous health and behavioral benefits—and it can help her live a longer, healthier life. This routine surgical procedure prevents pregnancy by removing the ovaries and uterus and does not alter your pet’s personality.
Spaying significantly reduces the risk of serious health issues, including reproductive tract infections, certain cancers, and other potentially life-threatening conditions. It also eliminates the heat cycle, which means no more spotting in dogs or the vocalizing and restlessness commonly seen in cats.
Beyond health benefits, spaying your pet also helps address the ongoing issue of pet overpopulation by reducing the number of unwanted animals entering shelters each year.
The procedure is performed under anesthesia, and your pet’s safety is our top priority. We follow strict surgical protocols and use advanced monitoring equipment to track your pet’s vital signs before, during, and after surgery.
For more details, please see our Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring section. If you’d like to schedule your pet’s spay procedure or have questions about the process, give us a call or stop by the clinic. We’re happy to discuss any concerns you may have and help you make the best decision for your pet’s well-being.

Neutering

Neutering Your Pet

Neutering your male dog or cat provides a range of health and behavioral benefits—and it can help him live a longer, healthier life. This routine surgical procedure prevents reproduction by removing the testicles and does not alter your pet’s personality.
Neutering reduces or eliminates the risk of prostate problems, testicular cancer, and certain infections. It also helps curb unwanted behaviors such as roaming, fighting, mounting, and urine marking (spraying), which are common in intact males.
Neutering also plays a critical role in addressing the dog and cat overpopulation crisis, helping to reduce the number of animals that end up in shelters.
The procedure is performed under anesthesia, and your pet’s safety is our top priority. We follow strict surgical protocols and use advanced monitoring equipment to carefully track your pet’s vital signs before, during, and after surgery.
For more information, please see our Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring section. If you're considering neutering your pet or have questions about the procedure, we invite you to call or visit our clinic. We’re happy to talk through your concerns and help you make the best decision for your pet’s health and well-being.

Soft Tissue Surgery

Soft Tissue Surgery
At Denton Animal Hospital, we perform a wide range of soft tissue surgeries—procedures that involve organs, skin, or muscles rather than bones. These surgeries can significantly improve your pet’s health, comfort, and quality of life.
One of the most common soft tissue procedures is mass removal. While many lumps and bumps are benign (non-cancerous), some may be malignant. Early removal and proper testing allow for faster diagnosis and treatment, especially if a mass is cancerous, improving your pet’s chances of a positive outcome.
Surgical treatment can also be beneficial for pets with chronic ear infections. In some cases, surgery helps improve airflow into the ear canal, reducing the frequency and severity of infections and enhancing your pet’s comfort.
We also address eye-related conditions through surgery. Excessive tearing or signs of eye discomfort may indicate infection or corneal damage. Surgical correction can promote faster healing, reduce scarring, and preserve or restore vision. For pets with abnormal eyelashes that irritate the eyes, surgery can correct the issue, improving comfort and protecting long-term eye health.
If you have concerns about a lump, chronic infection, or other condition that may benefit from surgical intervention, we’re here to help.
Please contact us to schedule a consultation or learn more about how soft tissue surgery can support your pet’s well-being.
